The address is:

200 N. Monroe St

Why don’t you take insurance?

There are three reasons why I don’t take insurance.

Firstly, your personal information does not stay private if the insurance company requests your records. There have been several occasions when I had to release my session notes to an insurance company when I was still taking insurance.

Secondly, the insurance company requires that I diagnose you with a mental illness in order to authorize treatment. I do not believe in and am uncomfortable with diagnosing my clients. Many who seek treatment do not have a mental health diagnosis, and once they receive a diagnosis, it remains on their medical record, which can prevent you from qualifying for health and life insurance in the future. I have had several clients who were denied benefits due to having a diagnosis of depression and generalized anxiety.

Thirdly, the insurance company dictates and limits your treatment. They will not authorize coverage which they deem as not “medically necessary”. The insurance company will also dictate the kind of treatment you will receive. This severely can compromise the ability to provide you with successful treatment.

Do I have to come prepared for my sessions?

Not at all, I am very active and engaged in my sessions and you do not have to worry about what you’re going to say in therapy. I find that many sessions are most productive when the client feels that they have nothing to talk about. My clients leave with new insights about themselves when they have no agenda for the sessions.
